Revealed – Twitter Faux Pas You Must Avoid

As Twitter grows in popularity, more and more website owners turn to this social networking site to promote their pages.  Unfortunately, some of these marketers are committing some Twitter faux pas that could cost them their followers.  Below are a few of the biggest Tweet offenses.

Twitter Mistake 1: Not taking part in the conversations.

Many Twitter users simply post one way messages and expect the world to follow them all the way back to their website.  While one-way messages are certainly important, marketers should also use hashtags (#topic) to help users find Tweets that relate to a particular conversation thread and get involved in meetups on the site.

Twitter Mistake 2: Not developing a Twitter profile.

Twitter users should select a background image and an avatar to give their page character.  It’s also important to write an interesting bio that describes who you are and what you have to contribute to the Twitter community.

Twitter Mistake 3: Not promoting anyone else’s work.

The more you give to the Twitter community, the more it will give back. If you only post links to your own page, you can’t expect anyone else to promote your own work. However, if you take the time to promote other people’s thoughts and ideas, they’ll be more inclined to return the favor.

Twitter Mistake 4: Not following other people.

You will not be able to attract followers on Twitter unless you follow others first. The more people you add into your network, the broader your exposure.  Follow others and they will follow you too.
